Photographers; professional, hobbyists and learners, last Sunday came together for an event dubbed #PhotographyInTheWild whose aim is to promote conservation through the lens. The event took place at Nairobi National Park and it featured a dawn to dusk photography game drive in the park with fun activities in between. It was then crowned off by an awards cocktail ceremony to which the best pictures of the day were awarded. Other pictures that were taken of endangered animals will be donated to various conservation groups, schools, and institutions for use in educating on the importance of conservation. The event was organized by Versatile Adventures in collaboration, KWS, BigFoot Adventures, Negesa Trails, Kenyanstory.com, TurnUp Travel and Hafla Entertainment.
Speaking at the event Ms Helen Lintari of Versatile Adventures applauded the photographers for the healthy completion that had led to collaboration for the sake of progress in conservation. The Kenya Wildlife Service rangers and guides took time to educate the photographers on the animals whilst they were on the game drive, they among other things, explained why some of the animals like the lions and rhinos are poached. Some of the best instructors from the Versatile School of Photography were also present to teach on the basics of photography to those that were learning.
